There are many variations of the Hammerlock but you basically end up with your opponent's arm bent behind and up the back. The first Hammerlock demonstrates a basic standing Hammerlock. You grasp underneath your opponent's forearm with one hand and your other hand is on the wrist. By grasping underneath with one hand, your arm creates a bar and you have more leverage. A lot of times you will see a Hammerlock applied with one or both hands on the wrist. I don’t believe this to be quite as effective as grasping underneath.
