Headlock
The first wrestling hold I would like to show is the headlock. While it may be one of the most basic holds, it is not without many questions. When I first went to Canada to train, one of the first things I was told was that you must control your opponent's head. I have found this to be very true in wrestling. The headlock, originally called a “head chancery,” has many applications. The legal headlock will be across the jaw, and not the throat.
Let's start with the standing side headlock. I think it is very effective, but only if you have proper balance and positioning, so you opponent can't suplex you backward.
